Accident Prevention
Accident prevention may be a better way of expressing our meaning than safety. So much of the time safety is just a "show". Sure, you could get all the bar servers to wear hard hats and life jackets, and everyone would say, "Aren't they safety conscious".
THE LAST PLACE YOU WANT TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT IS AT YOUR PARTY.
The things that concern us the most are outside steps that are very dark. It is so easy to put a light there, even if it is one of those $6.00 battery operated closet lights. Your home is not designed to hold 150 people. When I hear 150 people I think of 27,000 pounds or 13 1/2 tons of people added to the weight on your foundation. Many houses have additions and balconies that were not constructed properly, or even inspected for structural integrity. Making sure all the exits are unlocked, even those you never use, is another safety feature that most people do not think about during a party. You should try to make sure that all these exits are clear of heavy furniture or other obstacles. Your house is going to be under a great deal of stress the night of the event. All the toilets will be constantly flushing. The kitchen will be in constant use. All, or most, of your lights will be in use. Extension cords will be running out to the tents and the temporary outside lights. Also the air conditioner will be fighting with the ovens and coffee pots. If you have well water you need to test your pump prior to the event date. Can you imagine a wedding reception at your home with no running water?
One thing that is very helpful is to run extension cords to the outside event, such as the tent lights and band, from the neighbors power outlets. This helps avoid extension cords where people are walking. This will reduce trip hazards because the extension cords will arrive to the back of the tent. It also takes the pressure off your house of providing tremendous amounts of electricity at one time. However, don't forget to invite the neighbors.
Our tents comply with all the N.F.P.A Codes. The tents are manufactured out of flame resistant materials and we supply the local inspectors with a compliance certificate. If a site plan is needed, we will draw the plan and make sure it meets or exceeds the codes.
One thing that we highly recommend is to increase your public liability insurance for that one day. It only costs a few dollars. Remember, you may have to feed those hungry yellow page lawyers roosting outside the gate.
REMEMBER: If you have a sprinkler system on a timer please turn the system off the night of the party or you may experience some soaked guests.
