The Albany Museum of Art (AMA) allows visitors to explore works of art to better understand human experiences and to transmit cultural value. AMA is the only art museum, serving southwest Georgia and more importantly, is just one of 11 museums in the state accredited by the American Association of Museums. Accreditation ensures that the Albany Museum of Art meets extremely high standards, offers a quality venue for exhibitions and is dedicated to its mission. The Albany Museum of Art is both a cultural and educational institution of impressive scope, power and authority. Visitors of all backgrounds, ages, races and cultures, can enjoy a safe and relaxing learning environment in order to expand their understanding of the visual arts. The AMA is a place where ďahasĒ are born, that instant of recognition when someone is inspired. The Museum celebrates and promotes creative exploration through its permanent collections, temporary exhibitions and educational programs.The Museum is governed by diverse board of trustees and enthralls visitors with a permanent collection of the 19th and 20th century sub-Saharan African Art, European and American art and rich mixture of aesthetic styles and movements presented in an average of 15 exhibitions annually. In 1996, the Museum successfully implemented an endowment/capital campaign to strengthen the institution. Central to the campaign was the establishment of an endowment and the addition of the Museumís childrenís wing, AMAzing Space.

The cost is $1 per student or senior; $2 for adults

Birthday parties at the AMA are available Tuesday through Saturday at either 10:30am or 12:30pm. Parties should be scheduled one month in advance. Contact the Education Coordinator by calling 229-439-8400

Your membership at the Albany Museum of Art helps to support the Museumís educational programs and free tours to over 10,000 school children per year. Membership levels begin at $25 per year; call 439-8400 for further information.

The AMA makes its facilities (auditorium and lobby) available for rent throughout the year. The Museum offers an elegant setting for any special occasion. Call 439-8400 for details.
